Nuffic, the Dutch organization for Internationalization in education, as part of the EDU-SYRIA III consortium, will be responsible for managing the call for proposals for local organizations to submit projects that will support the Jordanian and Syrian youth education by developing their skills and strengthen their competencies. This Nuffic EDU-SYRIA newsletter will present the program progress quarterly.

Meet Suad!Su’ad is a Syrian bachelor’s graduate, who received a scholarship from EDU-SYRIA program funded by the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (Madad Fund). She finished her Educational Sciences degree from Zarqa University with an excellent GPA of 92.7%.! After the crisis of COVID 19 hit the region and Jordan in particular, Su’ad started volunteering with Amal Center of the Arab Medical Relief Society-ACAMRS, an active NGO at Al-Zaatari Refugee Camp-Al-Mafraq City. 214 new scholarships for Syrian refugee

EDU-SYRIA project granted 214 new bachelor’s degree scholarships for Syrian refugees to study at Zarqa University for the second semester 2019/2020. The registration for the scholarships started on 23/1/2020 and ended on 7/2/202, with 1388 registered applicants at the scholarship portal http://edu-sys.eu/ . After the end of the registration period, 284 eligible applicants were interviewed on Thursday 13 and 20 February 2020, only 214 of the applicants fit the criteria, explained below. EDU-SYRIA information sessions at Al-Za’atari and Al-Azraq Camps

EDU-SYRIA organized 2 information sessions at Al-Zaatari and Al-Azraq camps on 2 and 5 February 2020, to introduce Syrian refugee youth to the Bachelor’s scholarships provided by the program. These sessions were hosted by Relief International and in collaboration with UNHCR. They aimed to ease the scholarship registration process for the applicants from the camps, as a team from the registration department at Zarqa University were present and studied the applications and gave for the accepted students a document of “initial acceptance at Zarqa university”. Zarqa, Jordan, December 1- EDU-SYRIA Project, funded by the European Union (EU) and managed by the German Jordanian University (GJU), organised friendly football matches for the students enrolled in the Programme. On Tuesday, 8 October 2019, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal, Zarqa University celebrated the graduation of the 22nd Patch of its students for the summer semesters.
