Today the EDU-SYRIA II project delegation visited Zarqa University, during this meeting they met with student candidates for admission, totaling 300 students for the first semester of the academic year 2016/2017. This meeting was attended by EDU-SYRIA project manager (Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair), the academic supervisor (Dr. Ala’ Khalifeh), a representative from the UNHCR (Dr. Awad El-Shiekh) and the British Council, and the students’ questions and inquiries were answered. The European Union (EU) officially approved the New starting of EDU-SYRIA II which is funded by EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis, the ‘Madad Fund’. EDU-SYRIA conducted the interviews for the second cohort in the scholarship program in Zarqa University. The total number of received applications is 1069 and after a verification and filtering process 150 applicants were interviewed, out of which 46 Syrian were granted an EDU-SYRIA scholarship.

A team from German Jordanian University , Zarka University and UNCHR visited Camp to conducted interviews with candidates who interrupted their studies in Syria. The committee interviewed 21 candidates, 18 were offered conditioned admission given they finish all documents.  

Starting from 3/6/2016 and till 18/6/2016, EDU-SYRIA scholarship program is accepting applications for the second round of the program which is targeting interrupted students seeking a Bachelor degrees. A visit was made to Zaatari Refugee Camp by the EDU-SYRIA team from GJU, Zaraqa University, and Al-Quds College on 22 February 2016. The purpose of the visit was to interview new Syrian candidates for studying/completing their studies at either Zarqa University or Al-Quds College. The UNHCR hosted the operations of this round at their Zaatari Basecamp office. They provided the project team with the logistical support necessary for completing the interviewing process. Over 80 applicants have been interviewed. The biggest challenge was to have all necessary documents (i.e. certificates and transcripts) of the applicants legalized by the institutions that …
