German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) (DAAD)
The German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) (DAAD) is the world’s largest funding organization for the international exchange of students and researchers. Since it was founded in 1925, around two million scholars in Germany and abroad have received DAAD funding. It is a registered association, and its members are German institutions of higher education and student bodies. It relies on a strong organizational structure, a worldwide network of partners and alumni and a motivated staff of over 1,000 employees.
Since the start of the Syrian crises, the DAAD has launched several initiatives to enable Syrian refugees in the MENA region and in Germany to gain access to higher education. To mention but a few examples, “Leadership for Syria”, “New Perspectives for Young Syrians and Jordanians” and the HOPES project funded by the MADAD Fund.
