Amman, Jordan. On Thursday 5 October 2017, the Edu-Syria program managed by the German Jordanian University and funded by the EU Regional Trust Fund, the ‘Madad’ Fund, ran the last stage of granting Edu-Syria scholarships to Syrian refugee students for several bachelor programs at Zarqa University. The total number of applicants was 1100 who competed on 130 scholarships. The applicants were shortlisted to around 180 where the priority was given to Syrian refugees who completed their secondary school in Jordan this year (2017). On Thursday 25/05/2017, EDU-SYRIA team organized a trip to Jarash and Dibbeen for one hundred and forty two EDU-SYRIA I students in Zarqa university to engage them with the Jordanian culture and heritage. The trip started in Jarash from the Roman city where they the students guided by local certified tourist guides. The guides explain for students about the great ancient city and its history. The students had an exciting tour in the old city to enjoy the magnificent historical sights, afterword the students had lunch at Airtimes restaurant. On Monday 17/04/2017, a delegation from German Jordanian University EDU- Syria project represented by the director of the project Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair and the academic supervisor Dr. Ala Khaliefa, in addition to Dr. Awad Alshakh from the UNHCR, visited Zarqa Unversity to meet EDU-SYRIA students for the regular meeting. The delegation listened to the students concerns and questions, along with Dr. Khaled Zayadin from the university and check their academic progress.

On Monday 06/03/2017, a signature ceremony held in the European Union center in Amman to sign EDU-Syria II contract, which is the second phase of EDU-Syria project, committing EUR 11 million to the program funded by ‘Madad’ fund. This project will provide 1000 scholarships for the Syrian refugees and unprivileged Jordanians in the refugee hosting communities in cooperation with Jordan University of Science and Technology, Zarqa University and Al-Quds College.
