GJU and QRTA Partner to Launch Jordan’s First Higher Diploma in STEAM Education

Amman, Jordan — 23 August 2026

The German Jordanian University (GJU) and Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) signed a partnership agreement on 23 August 2026 to develop and deliver Jordan’s first Higher Diploma in Integrated Education (STEAM), with support from the EU-funded EDU-SYRIA Programme.

The new diploma pairs GJU’s academic strengths with QRTA’s track record in teacher training and professional development. Its goal is to give teachers the tools to build innovative, integrated lessons that draw together science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. Beyond individual classrooms, the program is intended to help raise the overall quality of education in Jordan and widen access to strong learning opportunities for underserved communities nationwide.

GJU President Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli said preparing teachers to keep pace with fast-moving changes in education and technology is essential and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to partnerships that advance education and prepare students for the future.

QRTA CEO Abdul Majeed Shamlawi described the agreement as a strong example of national collaboration, one that pairs academic knowledge with hands-on application to advance innovative teaching practices.

The program totals 25 credit hours delivered over three semesters through a mix of in-person and blended learning. Its curriculum centers on integrated and project-based learning, design thinking, and the use of technology and artificial intelligence, while building teachers’ critical thinking, creativity, inquiry, innovation, and collaboration skills.

The first group of students will begin the program in October 2026. Backed by the EU-funded EDU-SYRIA Programme, teachers from academic and vocational public schools across Jordan will be offered scholarships to take part, broadening the diploma’s reach and impact within the public education system.
