GJU and EDU-SYRIA Programme Celebrate Graduation of Second Cohort of Mental Health and Community Work Diploma

The German Jordanian University (GJU) marked the graduation of the second cohort of its Training Diploma in Mental Health and Community Work at a ceremony held on Saturday, 22 August 2026, under the patronage of Minister of Education and Human Resources Development Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, in the presence of GJU President Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli.
The four-month program was organized by GJU’s Department of Social Work at the School of Applied Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHSS), in cooperation with the Consultation and Training Center and with support from the EU-funded EDU-SYRIA Programme. It brought together 30 trainees drawn from national and community institutions.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of the Directorate of Military Education and Culture at the Jordanian Armed Forces–Arab Army, Brigadier General Dr. Saleh Al-Khalayleh; the Head of the Community Policing Division at the Public Security Directorate, Lieutenant Colonel Hamza Al-Wreikat; and members of the EDU-SYRIA Programme team.
The graduating cohort included 20 participants from the Ministry of Education, four from the Directorate of Military Education and Culture, three from the Public Security Directorate, and three Syrian participants supported through the EDU-SYRIA Programme.
GJU President Prof. Ala’aldeen Al-Halhouli underscored the university’s commitment to community service, pointing to the program’s role in combining academic knowledge with practical skills to strengthen participants’ capacities in mental health and community work.
The diploma consisted of 180 training hours, equivalent to 15 credit hours, delivered by specialized academic experts from the Department of Social Work. The program is accredited by the Ministry of Education for teachers’ promotion purposes, underscoring its relevance to the needs of the educational and professional sectors.
Dr. Haitham Thawabih highlighted the importance of preparing qualified professionals to address mental health and community challenges and to translate knowledge into practical impact.
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, First Lieutenant Dr. Baraa Al-Saqour conveyed participants’ appreciation for the program, noting its contribution to strengthening their knowledge, skills, and professional capacities.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participating graduates.
