EDU-SYRIA High School Summer Program 2026 Empowers 35 Zaatari Camp Students to Dream Bigger

EDU-SYRIA has wrapped up its High School Summer Program (HSSP) 2026, a nine-day journey that took 35 ambitious high school students from Zaatari Refugee Camp across Jordan’s leading universities and cultural landmarks, opening doors to new academic and career horizons.

Running from June 29 to July 9, the program began at Zarqa University, where students took their first steps into the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity through interactive sessions exploring how these industries are shaping the future of work. They also visited Al Hussein Technical University (HTU) where they were introduced to modern technical and applied education pathways and encouraged them to envision themselves as university students and future professionals.

The middle of the program combined history, adventure, and culture. Students toured the ancient Roman Ruins of Jerash before riding Ajloun’s cable car for panoramic views of Jordan’s forests and valleys. A visit to the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) deepened their exposure to scientific research and higher education, while a hands-on agritourism experience at BookAgri in As-Salt connected students with local farmers through activities such as planting and harvesting crops, milking goats and cows, and preparing traditional recipes. An outdoor learning day with Mishwar rounded out the experiential activities, fostering teamwork, leadership, and environmental awareness.

The program concluded with a celebration at the German Jordanian University (GJU), featuring an Arabic Calligraphy Workshop with the Jordanian Forum for Arabic Calligraphy and lively English-language games that showcased students’ growing confidence and communication skills.

“This summer was not only about visiting universities or participating in activities, but about empowering young people to dream bigger, explore new possibilities, and believe in their potential,” said Mr. Fawwaz Al-Saqqar, EDU-SYRIA Activities Coordinator. “We celebrate our students—their curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace every opportunity presented to them.”
