The Second High School Summer Program (HSSP)
EDU-SYRIA, which is funded by the EU through the European Union Regional Trust Fund for Response to the Syrian Crisis, through the “Madad” Fund, and managed by the German Jordanian University, and in collaboration with various Jordanian and international organizations and local educational institutions, successfully concluded the second High School Summer Program (HSSP). This program aimed to provide Syrian refugee students from Zaatri camp, aged 16 and 17 years old, with a vibrant and captivating experience. The program took place at Zarqa University (ZU), Luminus Technical University College (LTUC), Adventure and Challenge Forest Camp, and Mind Lab – King Hussein Business Park, from 10th to 20th July 2023. It offered a wide range of activities that fostered social interaction, learning, and creativity, and prepared the students for higher education.
On the first day, the event started at ZU. The students were filled with enthusiasm and excitement as they delved into the fascinating fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity. Both fields are extremely important in today’s fast-changing technological world. It was a thrilling experience for the students as they learned about the intricacies of cybersecurity and AI. If they decide to pursue these disciplines in university, they will be preparing themselves for successful careers and making important contributions to the ever-evolving technological landscape.
On the second day, our students went on a fantastic tour, which allowed them to gain a special insight into the international diploma programs offered at LTUC. This enlightening experience expanded their perspectives and ignited their passion for education.
However, the excitement did not stop there! On the third day, our students had the opportunity to visit the extraordinary Jordan Ranger Camp, celebrated for its inventive team-building exercises for student’s groups. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery and a peaceful atmosphere, our students were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, face challenges, and fully utilize their abilities.
On the fourth day, students experienced a mix of curiosity, active participation, and a desire to fully engage the mind lab. The lab provided interactive classes that were packed with one-of-a-kind scientific and creative projects and experiments.
“We are excited to have successfully completed another exciting and wonderful version of our Summer Program, and we are looking forward to its continuous development in the upcoming years. Furthermore, the positive feedback from the participating students and their families serves as a proof of the program’s success this year” said Fawwaz Al-Saqqar, Extracurricular Coordinator at EDU-SYRIA Scholarship Program.
EDU-SYRIA HSSP aimed to acquaint high school students with the phase of life transitioning to college, to encourage them to pursue further education and give them the self-assurance they need to enroll in college, to provide them with the critical thinking and self-assurance necessary for success in school, college, and their jobs.
Finally, EDU-SYRIA expresses gratitude to all participants, parents, volunteers, and anyone who contributed to the success of this endeavor.
The final day included a closing ceremony for the students, wherein certificates were handed out to them.
