Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Cooperation (NUFFIC)

For over 70 years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has entrusted NUFFIC with the implementation of international education and knowledge development grant programmes. The Orange Knowledge Programme is the current largest programme (€220 million), reaching 54 countries in total. NUFFIC is mandated to take decisions on grant awards in these countries, working closely with Dutch Embassies and under overall supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Through these programmes, NUFFIC contributes to Dutch development policy goals in various sectors by strengthening the capacities and skills of individuals and organisations in the field of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Higher Education. All programmes that NUFFIC manages on behalf of our Ministry are aligned to the Dutch government’s international development priorities.

NUFFIC’s work for the European Commission includes acting as National Agency Education and Training for the Erasmus+ Programme. As National Agency, NUFFIC is entrusted with budget implementation tasks for the Erasmus+ Programme at national level and acts as the link between the European Commission and participating organisations at local, regional and national level. NUFFIC is also appointed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to act as national information centre for the European Network of Information Centres on Recognition and Mobility (ENIC) of the Council of Europe and for the National Academic Recognition Information Centres (NARIC) of the European Commission. NUFFIC is also appointed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science as ‘assistance centre’ on the recognition of professional qualifications under European directive 2013/55/EU.

NUFFIC currently manages various regional higher education and skills programmes funded by the European Commission (DG DEVCO), often working closely with European sister organisations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and Campus France.
