EDU-Syria II Open day at Zarqa University

On Wednesday 18/01/2017, an open day was held at Zarqa University to introduce the funded programs for Syrian refugees (EDU- Syria II), which is run by the German Jordanian University and funded by the European Union in collaboration with Zarqa University, Jordan University of Science and Technology, and Al Quds College.

The vice president of ZU, Prof. Dr. Bassam Alhelo, pointed out that the university hosted this day to provide detailed information about the colleges and the bachelor programs they offer. He also added that ZU is ready to accept new Syrian students in different specializations for the second semester of this year and that the university supports education of the Syrian refugees in the affected areas.

Dr. Dhiah Abou-Tair, the project’s manager and by presence of Dr. Ala Khalifeh and Mr. Fawaz Al Saqqar from the German-Jordanian University, provided a briefing about the project and the role played by EU in offering the scholarships to Syrian and Jordanian students. He also added that EDU-Syria II will help more students to pursue their studies.

Mr. Job Arts, attaché at the European Union delegation in Amman, clarified that the priority in the grants will be for the Syrian students who suspended their university study due to the situation in Syria. He also added that this day would help the student to choose the right specializations with respect to their GPA’s.

In the meeting, almost 500 Syrian students attended the open day. Provide a briefing on the project objectives, targeted groups that could benefit from it, and the selection criteria. They also gave brochures about the specializations offered by the university.
