Signing EDU-Syria II Contract with the Delegation of the European Union
On Monday 06/03/2017, a signature ceremony held in the European Union center in Amman to sign EDU-Syria II contract, which is the second phase of EDU-Syria project, committing EUR 11 million to the program funded by ‘Madad’ fund. This project will provide 1000 scholarships for the Syrian refugees and unprivileged Jordanians in the refugee hosting communities in cooperation with Jordan University of Science and Technology, Zarqa University and Al-Quds College.
During the ceremony, the EU Ambassador Andrea Matteo Fontana emphasized that the EU is delivering on its promises to Jordan in the light of the ‘No Lost Generation’ initiative by providing higher education and vocational training to 1000 of underprivileged Jordanians and Syrian refugees.
The president of the German Jordanian University Professor Natheer Abu Obeid pointed out that this is another project in a roadmap for GJU involvement in supporting humanity in a time of crisis.
Also during the ceremony, some students who benefit from the two phases of the project emphasized the importance of the opportunity they had from the project, also a master student from Yarmouk University presented the Jordanian folklore in music.
The project supports various programs and degrees in the partner’s universities and colleges, as it provides a scholarship for master’s and bachelor’s degree as well as vocational education programs, also the project funds 300 Jordanian and 700 Syrian students scholarships.
